Ilha Grande is a small tropical paradise just a few hours from Rio. Its proximity and ease of access make the island very visited at some periods.
To make the most of this beautiful island, it is important to choose well your season. Indeed, it is located on the Costa Verde and means it rains often! It can be a flood for several days without stopping. And when it rains, the island becomes impractical because all roads are steep and become mud.
The main attractions of Ilha Grande are enjoying the beach and hiking. There are plenty of hikes and even not easy ones! You have to be solid to climb under 35 degrees and 90% humidity. If you are not so brave, boats can reach almost all the beaches of the island.
TO DO IN ILHA GRANDE
Ilha Grande Beaches
We had only one day to discover the island and we decided to go to the famous beach Lopez Mendes.
Despite the disappointed comments i read on some blogs, we hesitated but finally NO Regrets! It was superb !
We were lazy and took the boat from Abrao to Praia do Pouso. At Praia do Pouso, there is a small path that goes up and down to Lopez Mendes. It lasts about 15 minutes and can be done with flip flops.
The beach is so big that you only have to walk a few minutes to find yourself alone in paradise.
Unfortunately we did not have more time but the beaches Aracatiba, Aventureiro and Caxadaco are apparently also amazing.
The Lagoa Azul is of course to do. Even if there is too much boat, it is really a beautiful lagoon and a real aquarium.
Day Trip in Ilha Grande
For our first day, we arrived on the island in the morning at 9am and had not really planned anything. The pousada proposed us a day trip to the islands around Angra dos Reis.
Honestly I will say that it is to be avoided in high season. It’s too bad because the beaches and lagoons are beautiful but the boats do not respect the rules and stay right on the nice spots which totally ruins the beauty of the place.
Flotting restaurant TOCA DO MAR
Toca do Mar is a little paradise floating a few meters from the Praia do Pouso.
It was clearly the best restaurant of my trip !! Everything is there: the atmosphere, the tropical paradise around and the delicious food with, in addition, no excessive prices. I repeat myself this is a little paradise not to be missed!
